AMARILLO, TX. -- The "Click it or Ticket" laws enacted in 2009 are now in effect as the Texas Department of Transportation officially kicked off its campaign today.
There are a couple new laws that some people still might not be aware of as the laws take effect..
The first looks at child safety and booter seats. Any child younger than 8 or shorter than 4-feet 9 inches must use those seats.
Also, all passengers in the back seats of any vehicle must also click it or face a fine, according to Tracy Tellman., TxDot Traffic Safety Specialist.
"Click it or Ticket enforcement will concentrate on the back seat usage since it is new this year we want people to buckle up. Starting June 1st, kids under 8 or shorter than 4'9" have to be in a booster seat, so it's important for parents to get ready for that --it's just right around the corner."
Amarillo's seat belt use rate is about 86 percent, and officials with the Departement of Public safety say each percentage point represents 25 saved lives.
