WACO, Texas (AP) - A Waco school district police officer has been suspended for three days after he shot at the tire of a drunk student's fleeing car.

A Waco Independent School District report says Officer Ben Macias helped end a dangerous situation safely, but was disciplined Thursday because he violated policy.

Surveillance footage showed a student who had been removed from class hitting several cars as he sped away May 12. The Waco Tribune-Herald reported that Macias shot at the tire after the student drove toward him.

The student was soon pulled over and arrested. Reports say his blood-alcohol level was .25 percent, more than three times the legal limit.

Macias is a former state trooper who has worked for Waco schools about a year.
