SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -Gov. Bill Richardson's administration has awarded $1.5 million for nearly a dozen projects to improve rivers and riparian areas across New Mexico.
The money was part of capital improvement financing approved by the Legislature last year for the governor's river ecosystem restoration program.
The governor's office announced the 11 recipients of the money last week. Among them were the Carlsbad Soil and Water Conservation District for erosion control and other work along the Delaware River.
Santa Ana Pueblo was awarded money for Rio Grande bosque plantings and Taos Pueblo for riparian restoration along the Rio Pueblo de Taos.
The Grant Soil and Water Conservation District and the Gila Watershed Partnership received money for Black Canyon Creek improvements.
