OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma House has approved a bill that would prohibit the Oklahoma Lottery Commission from using children in its advertisements.
The House passed the bill 69-19 on Monday. It now heads to the Senate.
The bill by Rep. Leslie Osborn, R-Tuttle, also requires any lottery advertisements that make a claim of benefits to be documented by actual expenditures of revenue.
Lottery officials have expressed concern that prohibiting the use of children in promotional ads would negatively affect lottery sales.
According to a fiscal analysis of the bill prepared by the House, lottery officials estimate an annual loss of sales of about $5.8 million. They also project it would cost $141,000 to replace current ads and point-of-sale materials.
