AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo's newest business partner in wind energy, Alstom, had a cermonial groundbreaking at its new facility at Lakeside and NE 24th Thursday.
The company, which produces about 20 percent of the world's electrical energy, is set to begin production of the Nacelle's, used on wind trubines.
They said they chose to come to Amarillo a few months ago because of the business enviroment, the workforce, and the people here.
Scott Jones, the Director of Manufacturing for the North American branch of Alstom says, "The approach is a long term investment and if you research Alstom, and I encourage you to...you'll find that everywhere Alstom has gone, they tend to build up their business. Not a big bang..they build it up and they stay and they generate locally and that what we intend to do."
The company plans to start with 275 new employees to join the more than 80,000 people they employ worldwide.
