HOUSTON (AP) - The Texas Education Agency has assigned a conservator to a Houston charter school after a teacher was captured on cell phone video beating a student.

TEA spokeswoman Suzanne Marchman on Friday said that veteran administrator Shirley Johnson will help Jamie's House Charter School review safety, discipline and teacher training and help with updates.

Marchman says Johnson has been with districts in Houston, Willis, Somerset, Katy and Seguin.

Science teacher Sheri Lynn Davis was fired May 10 after video of the April beating of a 13-year-old boy, taped by a fellow student, aired on television.

Davis has apologized. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Friday was the last day of classes at the charter school before the summer break.
