AMARILLO, TX -- A replacement has been named for 47th Distirct Judge Hal Miner, who passed away two months ago.

Dan Schaap, who has worked for the Underwood law firm for 24 years has been appointed to fill Miner's seat.

Schaap said he's humbled to fill the vacancy, and believes that everyone coming into his court has the right to a fair and speedy trial, along with due process of the law.

"I think everyone's entitled to when they walk into a courtroom, to believe they're entitled to a level playing field. Nothing can disappoint an attorney or parties more than walking into a courtroom and feeling like maybe someone's already decided something."

Schaap, who will represent Potter, Randall and Armstrong counties, will serve the remainder of Miner's term through this year along with the next four year term on the bench.
