Celia's Cocina on 6th street to close
AMARILLO, TX -- After almost 50 years of serving up authentic mexican cooking in Amarillo, Celia's Cocina is closing up shop Saturday, the 29th, on 6th street.
The restaurant has moved locations three times since Celia first started serving up food, but now the family is faced with having to come up with $3500 dollars for a fire-suppression system in their kitchen. They say that's not something they can overcome at this time, according to Celia's granddaughter, Yuvia Gonzales.
"I practically grew up here, my kids grew up, my family...this restaurant is our lives and we've never known anythign else...so it's heartbreaking, but everything happens for a reason though."
There might be a chance they would re-open at another location, but Gonzales says she's not too confident that will ever happen.
