CLARENDON, TEXAS -- Clarendon College president says he will step down at the end of this year.
The Clarendon Enterprise reports that President Bill Auvenshine confirmed Tuesday that he intends to resign at the end of 2010. Auvenshine informed the Board of Regents at its May 20 meeting of his resignation.
"My only regret is that I came to Clarendon at the end of my career," Auvenshine told the Enterprise. "Had this been my first job, I would have wanted to stay for 30 years."
A plan is being formulated to select the next president, but Auvenshine said the college isn't ready to receive application yet.
A committee will draw up a profile and qualifications to be presented to the regents in June as part of a six-month process to search for a replacement. The new president will take over on January 1, 2011.
Auvenshine has spent the last 54 years in education. He came to the college three years ago following the resignation of Dr. Myles Shelton.
In other news, during the May meeting regents approved several new hires. The new hires include, Corey Murdock and John Havens as wind energy instructors, Brian Fuller as an agriculture instructor, Mark Simmons as a welding instructor, Mikalennet Tennel to coach volleyball, and Kellye Reed as a nursing instructor. The board also accepted the resignation of volleyball coach Tennessee Brown.
