AMARILLO,TEXAS -- The precarious link between a congressman's political contributions and his stance on an issue.

The Dallas Morning News reports the top supporters of many members of congress from Texas, including the Panhandle's Mac Thornberry are oil companies. The story says Thornberry has received over a third of a million dollars from those companies since he went into office.

As BP's oil continues to spill into the gulf, its says Texans in congress stand firm in their support for more offshore drilling.

But Thornberry and the others say that support is not tied to those donations.

"I've always believed we should produce more energy of all kinds here at home, and have introduced legislation and pushed policies to try to do that. Fortunately, that attracts the support of a number of people in the oil and gas business. And that's something I'm proud of, I'm not gonna change that," said Thornberry.

He also says it's no big surprise that somebody who represents our area would also represent people in that industry, and in the best way they know how.
