MIAMI,TEXAS -- Each year hundreds of people go to Miami, Texas to yell at the top of their lungs until the cows come home.
Friday the Annual National Cow Calling Championship begins. Its been a Panhandle staple since 1949. The contest was the suggestion of "Old Tack" otherwise known as humorist, columnist, publisher, and conservationist Gene Howe of Amarillo.
The cow calling isn't the only part of this weekend's festivities. The events will begin with a dinner Friday evening at 5:00 in the school cafeteria, followed by Frontier Follies at the Miami High School. Also this weekend, get your fill of pancakes at the pancake breakfast, then you can run with the cows in a 5K, take part in the Pioneer Roundup, mosey on over to the classic car show, and finish up with a good 'ole Texas steak cook off.
