AMARILLO, TEXAS -- With the near record heat we're expecting over the weekend plans are being put in place now to meet the energy needs of the Panhandle.
As we near those triple-digit temperatures, air conditioners will be going full blast to combat the heat.
Xcel Energy is already preparing for a big weekend and hopes consumers can keep an eye on their energy usage to make sure we don't have any problems in the hot weather.
Wes Reeves, Xcel's spokesperson, says everything should be fine.
"We've had hot summers before and we've had, time to time, maintenance issues on plants, and they're never very timely, we do have some maintenance issues going on right now. So we don't have as much power available as we'd like, but we're still within our margins and we still, at this point, feel comfortable that we can get thrgough the weekend and provide power that everyone needs to stay cool."
