AZTEC, N.M. (AP) - An Aztec man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 10-year-old relative on New Year's Day in 2006.
Thirty-six-year-old Quentin Alfred accepted an agreement where he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sexual contact.
State District Judge Thomas Hynes sentenced Alfred to 15 years in prison on each charge but said the terms could be served concurrently. The judge also gave Alfred credit for time served.
Court documents say Alfred entered his relative's bedroom early in the morning hours of New Year's Day 2006 after drinking all night during a family party.
The girl waited three years before telling her mother about the rape.
