As of this weekend Dr. Demento will be off the radio airwaves for good.

Barrett Eugene Hansen, otherwise known as Dr. Demento, announced on Monday that he will be closing the doors of his near 40-year-old radio show this weekend in favor of producing shows for DrDemento.com.

For all us here in Amarillo there is some good news. By special agreement and due to contractual considerations, a version of the internet show will be heard weekly on KACV-FM, FM 89.9. He will be on the air here at least through the summer.

Dr. Demento was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame this past November. He is also responsible for bringing Weird Al Yankovic to worldwide attention.

Dr. Demento does intend to continue producing new shows every week on his website for the foreseeable future. A new show will be available Saturday morning, beginning June 12, and additional shows will be posted every Saturday thereafter.
