KASHA-KATUWE TENT ROCKS NATIONAL MONUMENT, N.M. (AP) - Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument between Albuquerque and Santa Fe will close for about six weeks beginning Monday so the road to the monument from Cochiti Pueblo can be paved.
The Bureau of Land Management had announced the closure earlier this spring, but did not have an exact date for the five-mile paving project until this week.
BLM officials say the work is expected to be done by late July, but that the road and monument could open sooner if construction finishes earlier than expected.
They say paving will minimize the dust stirred up by traffic and eliminate the need to close the road after heavy rains and snow.
