AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Click it or Ticket the annual crack down on seat belt violators has wrapped up.
From the May 24-June 6, Amarillo police say they issued 607 seat belt tickets, 45 child restraint citations,16 speeding, 505 for other violations, 5 felony,4 county, and 14 municipal arrests were made by the officers working this grant. Of those arrests 2 were listed for DWI. Several of the arrests were for possession of marijuana and narcotics. A total of 65 warrants were served off of the arrests made.
Police also conducted a survey of 4 different locations within the city was completed prior to the campaign and it revealed an 85.9% of Amarillo residents wear their seatbelt. A survey of the same 4 locations was done after the campaign and it revealed 88.2% were using their seatbelts.
Seatbelt and child restraint enforcement will continue to be strict in Amarillo despite the Click it or Ticket campaign coming to an end.
All occupants of a motor vehicle must be seat belted no matter if they are in the front or back seat. All children under the age of 8,unless they are taller that 4 ft. 9 in. must be secured in a child passenger safety seat system.
