AMARILLO, TX -- Retails sales figures released Friday showed a substantial drop and Amarillo's numbers mirrored those findings.

Across the country sales on everything from cars to building materials plunged 1.2 percent, the largest decline in 8 months.

Sales tax receipts released for the city of Amarillo, which are for the month of April, show a large drop compared to a year ago, accoridng to city finance direct, Michelle Bonner.

"Sales tax receipts are at 3.17 million , that's down from last year for the same time period..we're down about $250,000. A little disappointing because as you know, ww were up last month and we were hoping that trend would continue."

Bonner says there's no particular reason city leaders are aware of for the drop.
