Texas Republicans have ousted their leader, conservative activist Cathie Adams, in favor of Houston businessman Steve Munisteri.
Delegates chose him to be the new state party chairman during their convention Saturday in Dallas. He focused on the party's $500,000 debt. Munisteri won his new title over a local Panhandle representative, it all came down to the votes.
"Actually, the 2 people that were opposing her one from Amarillo...are much better in financial matters than she is. And the Houston businessman and there are more votes down state than there was from the Panhandle so the Houston man won," said Randall County Chairman, John Tyson.
Tyson also said he believes either candidate would have been better at managing the financials for the GOP, especially since they control both houses of the legislature and all statewide offices.
