LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A commission overseeing low-level radioactive waste disposal in Texas has temporarily withdrawn proposed rules that could also allow burial of nuclear material from 36 states.

Bob Gregory of the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission said Monday that the panel voted unanimously Saturday to pull the rules from consideration and repost them with some amendments.

It's not yet clear when the rules would be published. Texas law requires the rules to be posted for 30 days, followed by a 30-day minimum comment period, before implementation.

The withdrawal delayed by at least two months a vote. Approval would allow material from nuclear power plants, hospitals, universities and research labs to be buried at a site near the New Mexico border.
