AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A Houston energy group is hoping to install direct current transmission lines in the Oklahoma panhandle and send the electricity to the southeast region of the U.S.
Clean Line Energy Partners is wanting to construct the 800 mile, $3.5 billion project starting in T exas county and then route the energy over to the Tennessee Valley Authority area.
Company executive, Mario Hurtado, says they're ready for phase one of moving wind energy across the country.
"We're ready to talk to people, community leaders, landowners about what we're doing...educate them and more importantly, get feedback from them, on what are the kinds of things they want to see, areas that are important not to touch and what areas are more apt for this sort of transmission."
"Our project is providing a transmission service and we think if things go well we can be in service by 2015 but we're going to do everything we can to be in place and within that schedule."
Hurtado says if they are able receive public utility status and all goes as expected, besides being up and operating by 2015, they hope to employ about 10,000 people.
