AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Sharyland Utilities filed an application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas to build a transmission line. That line will connect the Panhandle to power grids downstate.
There had been some concerns that those lines would go over the Palo Duro Canyon. In fact, a group of people organized and voiced their concerns about that possibility.
However, it appears that those lines may miss the Canyon. In the route the company calls the preferred route the line would link two proposed collection stations together, one being in Deaf Smith County, the other in Carson County.
The company also has several other alternate routes. Landowners on both routes will now be getting formal notice from the company. Public notices will also be published in local newspapers. People wishing to intervene in the process have 30 days to file their motion.
The PUCT also has 6 months from June 16, to act on the application. A final decision is expected in December.
