DALLAS (AP) - A Dallas-area parent is upset over a staged photo in which her 11-year-old son is face-first in a trash can, a woman appears to help him and her caption says: "I'd rather be reading."

Shamica Neal has filed a grievance with the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District.

District spokeswoman Angela Shelley declined comment.

The Dallas Morning News reports the photo, in which the boy looks like he's vomiting, was put on a school bulletin board as part of a reading initiative.

Neal says she did not give permission for a photo of her son, who had been in the nurse's office at Blanton Elementary School, taking some medication.

Ladarion Neal says a librarian in May asked him to pose, but he was confused when he said OK and it was "really dirty in there."
