AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Region 16 has named Larry Appel as their Superintendent of the Year.
Appel serves as the Superintendent of the Dumas School District, a position he's been in since 1991, and serving as the Assistant Superintendent ten years prior to that.
He has worked for the district a total of 37 years.
Appel will represent the panhandle at the state awards that happen in Houston later this year.
