SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A report by Gov. Bill Richardson's administration says 47 percent of high school graduates who went to a New Mexico college in 2009 needed remedial courses in math or reading.
The report said that was an improvement over 2008, when half of students required remedial classes in college.
The governor's office announced the report's findings on Thursday. The Ready for College report is prepared annually by the Office of Education Accountability, the Public Education Department and the Higher Education Department.
The report said about 9,700 New Mexico high school graduates went to a state college or university in 2009. That's up from about 9,300 in 2008.
