CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Curry County commissioners have approved a $33 million proposal to create a criminal justice complex that would include redesigned county offices, courts and jails in Clovis.
The plan calls for a general obligation bond of $16.5 million and a 0.25 percent gross receipts tax increase, which would need approval by voters in the November general election.
The project would include a two-story jail addition for male inmates, remodeling of the existing jail, a new courts building and an addition for the juvenile jail.
Several businesses and two residences are located within the tract and would be demolished.
The project would move forward in multiple phases of demolition, renovation and construction, resulting in a three-block complex that includes improved parking and landscaping.
