DEMING, N.M. (AP) - Authorities have destroyed 70 roosters seized by Luna County sheriff's deputies after a tip about an illegal cockfighting operation in southern New Mexico.
Luna County Sheriff's Capt. Arturo Baeza says the roosters were euthanized under a court order obtained by the district attorney's office.
New Mexico outlawed cockfighting in 2007.
Investigators have said people scattered before deputies arrived on the scene June 12.
No arrests have been made.
Baeza says the sheriff's office has sent a letter to the owner of the property, who lives in Mesa, Ariz.
