INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana woman who told police she faked a pregnancy for nine months following a miscarriage could face attempted murder charges after police say she stabbed a married couple during a botched attempt to steal their month-old baby.
Thirty-four-year-old Stephanie Foster of Terre Haute is due in court Thursday afternoon. Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt says he plans to file formal charges against Foster next week.
There was no record of an attorney for Foster.
Sheriff Jon Marvel says Foster attacked Ashley and Michael Speers after asking to use their phone. Ashley Speers was in stable condition at an Indianapolis hospital Thursday with stab wounds. Her husband has been treated and released.
The baby was staying with relatives.
