THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) - The Ironman endurance triathalon will head for the Houston area next year as one of 25 qualifying races for the world championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
The event is May 21, 2011, at The Woodlands. Registration opens Friday.
Participants must swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run a full 26.2 marathon over 17 hours. The Texas competition will offer 65 slots for the race in Kona on Oct. 8, 2011.
Event organizers have searched for a spot in Texas for the past decade. ---
