AMARILLO, TX -- If you're ready to head out to your favorite fireworks stand and pick up that big family fun pack, city police have a warning before you do.

Even if you're buying fireworks outside the city limits for later use, bringing them anywhere back inside the city limits is still against the law.

And while it's just a misdemeanor, you can still receive a fine up to $2,000 for having them in your possession, according to Corporal Jerry Neufeld with the Amarillo Police Department.

"When you bring them back inside the city limits...if you get stopped for a traffic violation or if you're involved in a traffic accident and we find fireworks in your vehicle, we will issue you a citation."

All across the Panhandle region, you need to check with your own city to see what limitations are being enforced.
