AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Coalition of Health Services, the Amarillo Area Foundation, and A.M.A Techtel are partnering up to help bring the Panhandle into the 21st Century.
They've asked the Federal Government for $41 million in stimulus funds to expand broadband networking from the top of Texas all the way south of Lubbock. They hope this will provide better infrastructure in rural communities, and give them a better advantage for education and health.
"This will make it ten times faster service than these small towns currently have. Broad bands are in some places, but this will provide them a larger capacity than what they currently have access to in their communities," said Carolyn Witherspoon, Executive Director for Coalition of Health Services.
To get these stimulus funds, the group needs to come up with at least $8 million in the next few weeks.
