AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Police Department was notified over the weekend of two counterfeit $100 bills that were found at local garage sales.

Doug Miller and his wife Carolyn were helping their daughter and son-in-law with what they thought was just a regular Saturday garage sale, and it wasn't until the suspects left when they figured out they just gave away $92.

Miller says a hispanic woman around five feet tall with shoulder length hair visited their garage sale around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

She purchased a few items around $8, then used a $100 bill to pay for it. It wasn't until her and a male companion took off, when Miller's son-in-law sensed something was wrong.

"He was on his way to work, he went and called his wife and said bring that money down I have a gut feeling that might not be good, you never would have suspected this lady she's gracious and talked to you and was visiting and really puts you at ease," said Doug Miller.

Miller said he immediately called the police and filed a report, but unfortunately the damage had already been done. "Well we gave them merchandise, and $92 back so we still lost one hundred bucks anyway you look at it," he continued.

Still, he is thankful that it was only money, and his daughter and son-in-law didn't lose anything valuable. He said he hopes that everyone having a garage sale pays attention at all times.

"From $10 bills up just give it a mark, cause the mark always shows up on regular bills," said Miller.

Miller says the suspect is around 5'0, but the police reports say she's about 5'6. Both said she's a hispanic woman possibly wearing a blonde wig.
