HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - The discovery of Jonathan Green's wallet in some woods near clothing and jewelry belonging to a missing 12-year-old Montgomery County girl prompted police to question the laborer who lived alone in a shack.
But it wouldn't be until a month later, in July 2000, when a neighbor's report about an unusually large trash fire sent investigators back to Green's dilapidated home about 50 miles northwest of Houston.
A police cadaver dog led detectives inside the house where the remains of Christina LeAnn Neal were found wrapped in a blanket and stuffed into a bag behind a piece of furniture.
The 42-year-old Green was set to die Wednesday in Huntsville for abducting, raping and strangling the girl whose residence wasn't far from his rural home.
