AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Police Department began using the Nixle Community Information Service in October of 2009. Since that time, the APD has sent out over 200 messages to subscribers. The police, say they have 1,446 subscribers. The service allows citizens, news media, and law enforcement officers, stay aware and up to date about what's happening in our community.
According to Nixle's Agency Relations Manager, the service is being used by more than 4,000 law enforcement, municipal, and community organizations.
The APD has used the service to warn the public about traffic problems, to educate people about the laws that door-to-door solicitors must follow, to provide information about missing persons, to notify the public of current criminal activity such as the passing of counterfeit bills at garage sales last weekend, and other subjects.
Nixle messaging lets the police provide the public with accurate information in a timely manner.
Amarillo Crime Stoppers also uses the Nixle messaging to send out their Crime of the Week and Fugitive of the Week. Those messages have even led to the identification of a felony suspect.
Nixle messaging has enabled more efficient communication with the public, and has encouraged the public to communicate with the department. Subscribers can select the level of messages they want to receive; from community messages of general interest to emergency alerts about ongoing events.
The best part about the Nixle messaging system is that its free, and doesn't send out advertising.
