AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Randall County Sheriff's office is urging everyone to be safe when handling fireworks.

Children must be supervised by adults when they are using fireworks. Approximately 9,000 serious injuries occur each year due to fireworks accidents in the U.S.

If you plan to shoot fireworks in rural Randall County, it must be done on private property with the property owner's permission. Publicly owned areas such as school parking lots, county or state maintained buildings and parking areas are off limits to fireworks.

The sheriff's office will have extra patrol on duty the night of July 4th. Citations will be issued for any violations.

Keep in mind that fireworks do start fires and you could be responsible to pay any damages incurred by negligence relating to fireworks discharge.
