AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Throughout the mall, store openings and expansions seem to be a trend; it's now as much as 96% leased.
With the economy fluctuating last year many stores didn't know if they wanted to commit to renewing leases, but now, according to the general manager, in the last six months, there have been 14 renewals and seven new leases.
When stores expand, that's more people to pay rent, and spend money all over the city. "The more spaces we have occupied, obviously the more sales will be generated here, more sales taxes will get paid, more value we add to the local economy and that just goes on and on it's really what makes the overall economy work here," said Brian Giffin, the General Manger of the Westgate mall.
Giffin continued, saying this September, expect a new store called "Something Special." The shoe store Encore will expand to 16,000 square feet, and reopen by Christmas.
