AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Thursday marked the first day that people without insurance for more than 6 months because of a pre-existing condition can signup for the Federal High Risk pool plan. It's all part of the Health Care Reform Bill.

For years Texas has offered a similar plan for those struggling to find health coverage.

We spoke with Texas Representative John Smithee about the questions surrounding the federal plan.

"One of the problems with the federal legislation is we still don't understand how the risk pools are going to work on their federal level, there's still a lot of rule writing to be done."

Neither plan is cheap and Smithee urges people with questions to call their local representative or insurance agent to find out more about how to get coverage.
