BOISE CITY, Okla. (AP) - Three people have died after their pickup collided with a tractor-trailer on a remote highway in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 63-year-old Freddie Lee Cornwell of Tulsa, 72-year-old Wanda Carter of Sapulpa and 74-year-old Gerald C. Carter of Sapulpa died in the accident about 11:20 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 287 about 15 miles north of Boise City in Cimarron County.
Troopers say the pickup driven by Cornwell went left of center for an unknown reason and struck the tractor-trailer on the driver's side.
Troopers say the tractor-trailer's driver, 33-year-old Adam Stewart Niederlag of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, and his passenger were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and released. A passenger in the pickup, 55-year-old Debra Cornwell of Tulsa, was airlifted to an Amarillo, Texas, hospital in stable condition with head injuries.
