Officials at several public colleges and universities in Oklahoma say the economic downturn has helped boost enrollment.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Seminole State College vice president Lana Reynolds says the number of students attending the two-year college jumped by more than 6 percent to 705 students this summer. Reynolds says a 10 percent enrollment increase is expected for the fall.
At Oklahoma State University, summer freshmen enrollment increased nearly 14 percent, and higher enrollment is expected for the fall. Missy Wikle says OSU is trying to add classes where necessary for the upcoming semester, but keep class sizes down.
University of Central Oklahoma vice president Myron Pope says fall enrollment is 9 percent higher than in fall 2009 so far. Pope says enrollment is expected to decline when the economy improves.
