McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate escaped overnight from a McAlester prison.

Oklahoma Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie said Monday that 34-year-old Stephen G. Thomas was discovered missing during the 8:30 a.m. head count Monday at Jackie Brannon Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison.

Prison records show Thomas is scheduled for release in 2020 on convictions for injury of a minor child and possession of an explosive device.

He had been in prison since 1998.
