LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Lubbock County officials say days of rainfall over the Fourth of July weekend caused about $4 million in damages.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Tuesday that the estimate includes damages to roads, infrastructure and to 230 homes inside the city limits.

County and city officials will use their damage report to apply for state and federal aid.

The region's deluge came from the remnants of Hurricane Alex.

A National Weather Service official told the paper that Lubbock rainfall through Sunday - 7.37 inches - is a record for the month of July already. The previous record came in 1976 when the city got 7.20 inches.

Post, about 35 miles southeast of Lubbock, has already had about twice its record rainfall for the month, hitting 12.61 inches so far.
