AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Teenagers in foster care are the toughest to get adopted. Those kids usually end up aging-out of care, and statistically the odds are against them.
That's where the Annual Regional Teen Conference comes in. Wednesday, teens in foster care were treated to several workshops to learn things like how to balance a checkbook, and rent an apartment, so that they can be productive adults and reverse the negative trends.
Also on hand, Michael Guinn, a poet who hopes to help inspire the teens to express themselves in a positive way.
"When I was growing up and needed someone there for me no one was and it's important for me to be a part, to be that for them, that's how important it is."
Guinn has a master degree in sociology and has worked for CPS, but says he gave up the cubicle eight years ago to help at-risk teens.
