OLDHAM COUNTY, TEXAS -- On Monday, a DPS trooper working along I-40, 9 miles outside of Vega, arrested a Texas man for possession of a controlled substance.
Around 11:30 that morning, the trooper stopped a Chevrolet Implala for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper asked for consent to search the vehicle and it was granted. A DPS K-9 unit conducted a free air sniff and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the car. A search revealed 48 bottles of Codeine, 494 tablets of Xanax, and 217 tablets of Hydrocodone. The drugs were hidden inside a suitcase in the trunk.
The trooper arrested the driver, Jagehauel Gillespie, 34, of Pearland, Texas. Gillespie and his passenger Daniel Clay, of Alexandria, Louisiana were traveling east on I-40 from Los Angeles, California to Houston.
Gillespie was booked into the Oldham County Jail for possession of a controlled substance.
