AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Making himself visible to the community Wednesday night, at least by phone, was New Mexico Democratic Congressman Ben Ray Lujan. Lujan held a call-in town hall meeting with constituents, where the questions ranged from wall street reform to solar panels, to even immigration reform.
Lujan said that final item is a must; saying it will not only benefit taxpayers, but help illegal immigrants pay their fair share. "I believe that a comprehensive approach to immigration reform should secure the border and it should crack down on employers that hire illegally, it should require illegal immigrants or undocumented people to register for legal status, they should pay back taxes, they should learn English and be eligible for citizenship along those lines and only along those lines."
In Wednesday's town hall call-in, 84% of the people who did in fact call in, did so for the first time.
