AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An Amarillo group that's behind a move to ban cell phones behind the wheel in the city, showed up at Wednesday's City Traffic Commission meeting.
The catalyst was this past weekend's accident on Highway 87 where Amarillo biker Cynthia Whitney was hit and killed by a driver who was distracted when he dropped his cell phone.
Traffic Commission Chairman Bob Balliett tells ProNews 7 a ban will not be accomplished through his board. He said the city will wait to see how the state legislature votes on the issue before the commission will look at it. But he said, when it comes to distraction in a vehicle, cell phones, kids, dogs, things like that it's very hard to draw the line about what should and what shouldn't be allowed.
