AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Solar Energy is being called the energy of the future and Amarillo College now has $798,424 to support it.
The National Science Foundation awarded the funding Thursday. The funding will allow AC to add a solar component to its renewable energy program.
It's hoping that by fall of 2011, it will start solar energy classes. "I think the students like it because it's a new opportunity in a new area that they are able to get in on the ground floor as it's being developed and actually grows within the next couple years and with all the incentives the government is giving people in solar, even wind programs, uh, we will see more and more becoming a factor," said Jack Stanley, the Science & Engineering Division Chair.
The grant comes on the heels of another one that will help AC buy and equip trailers with wind and solar labs to take to high schools and get students interested.
