AMARILLO, TEXAS -- After the death of cyclist Cindy Whitney, pedestrians, other cyclists, and runners have been trying to figure out a way to come up with a plan to make it safer for them on the road.
Share the Road is a new campaign organized by a group of runners, walkers, cyclists, and motorists. Their mission is to improve safety on the roads, and promote awareness and education throughout the city.
The group sent out a message Wednesday, to try and personalize those on the road. They held signs up that said, I'm a runner, a dad, a mom to let people know the road is big enough for all of us.
They are also getting involved with the city. Mayor Debra McCartt was there to show her, as they hope this new group catches on.
"We're going to do this, we're going to inform them on share road.org to help you understand what you can do to be safer for bicyclist, walkers, and runners, as we all use the road in Amarillo and the surrounding areas," said Share the Road organizer, Kenneth Graham.
If you want to be part of Share the Road, or pitch ideas and suggestions, their website will be up soon. But you can go to their facebook page, Share the Road Amarillo.
