Partnership Provides Easier Access to Housing Programs for Rural Residents.
NEW MEXICO -- USDA To Partner with Eastern Plains Housing Development Corporation To Bring More Housing Opportunities to Rural Residents
USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner joined U.S. Representative Ben Ray Lujan today to announce the new partnership between USDA Rural Development and the Eastern Plains Housing Development Corporation based in Clovis. They announced that the partnership will create more housing opportunities for those living in rural communities in eastern New Mexico.
USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner said, "This partnership effort streamlines government efforts and provides essential housing services to those seeking to buy or repair a home in the rural communities surrounding Clovis."
Brunner added, "We will be able to better serve the residents of the small communities with a one-stop shop type of service for residents to get information on homebuyer education and how to apply for a mortgage loan with our agency." The partnership created by the two agencies will target those living in communities of less than 10-thousand residents such as Elida, Floyd, Melrose, Portales, and Texico.
Because USDA Rural Development does not have an office in the area, the Eastern Plains Housing Development Corporation will provide a workplace for USDA staff to hold office hours on a regular basis. The announcement of the office days schedule will be forthcoming within the next few weeks. USDA Rural Development made a short presentation on their funding programs which highlighted the Guaranteed Rural Housing Program, the Direct Housing Program and the Rehabilitation Program that provides both grant and loan money to remodel a home.
USDA Rural Development's mission is to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents. Rural Development fosters growth in homeownership, finances business development, and supports the creation of critical community and technology infrastructure.
