The Education Spending Bill that you've heard might cut $830 Million from Texas schools has been signed into law by President Obama. We talked with officials at the department of education today. And they say they're working hard to make sure Texas doesn't lose that money, but would not specify how they would do that. Congressman Mac Thornberry says it's a law that unfairly singles out Texas.
"It is absolutely wrong to single out Texas and say out of all 50 states only Texas has to guarantee a certain amount of education funding over the next 3 years. We can't do that, apparently, under our state constitution."
The new law requires Governor Rick Perry to promise that the state will maintain certain education spending levels through 2013.
