AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Nine out of ten car seats are not installed properly which could be dangerous for your baby.

That's why TxDOT, the Amarillo Fire Department, and the Police Department have teamed up to help make out.

Parents and their kids made their way to the fire department to receive tips on car seat safety, and have their own car seat installed properly. Officials say there are several ways to install those seats incorrectly.

"Make sure that seat moves less than 1 inch. The harness that you can't pinch any slack and that you don't turn your baby around too soon. They need to stay rear facing to the weight of their convertible, which is usually 30 to 35 pounds," said Tracy Tellman, TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist.

If you missed Thursday's lesson Tellman says not to worry. You can contact TxDOT anytime and set up an appointment for free.
