CANYON, TEXAS -- The oldest Anglo building in the Panhandle is now open for visitors. The T Anchor Ranch was built in the fall of 1877 and sat right near Kimbrough stadium.
It now sits next to the panhandle plains museum, and people can walk in and experience what it was like to live during that time. Some rooms will showcase the small size of the building with nothing inside but dirt floors, but for others the museum plans to add historical artifacts.
"There were lots of firsts that happened at T Anchor, one of the first political rallies in the panhandle was held here, the establishment of Randal County was held in this building, um, first elections were held in this building, so it's pretty amazing," said Michael Graver, the Assistant Director of Curatorial Affairs.
"It's great for children and the next generations to see, you know where we came from and how much progressed and really what it was like to live in the panhandle way back," said Andrea Porter, the PPHM Communications Coordinator.
The ranch even features cedar logs that were cut from Palo Duro Canyon.
